Day 45 - April 8, 2010 - Coast to Coast

TOTAL MILES BIKED: 2,109

From the Captain: Last night we had a quick moving cold front come through with a lot of rain and lighting. It's surprising how few bad weather days that we've had on then trip. Once in Calif., 2 in Phoenix, and one snow day in Silver City, NM. This storm moved through overnight, pushed out the heat and humidity and by 9:00 a.m. we were heading out on dry roads. The forecast is for a week of good weather. The winds switched from out of the south to out of the northwest. Of course, our route was turning to the north. The ride was flat and curvy through nice farm lands and wooded areas. We biked 56.5 miles from Washington to Simmesport, LA.
We are having problems with our "bottom sides". It was one of the advantages of the hills, we would stand on the downhill and give it a rest. While riding in the flats, we're finding we have to stop frequently to rest our bottoms and resort to Motrin. Luckily, we don't have much further to go. It looks like about 15 days left to bike on this adventure of ours.

  1. REally? About 15 days left? Wow! I imagine you are looking forward to a nice rest period, but I am so impressed by how well you have done - truly awesome!

Your pictures are so intersting - particularly the cemetery/gravesites - so different than most places. And the azaleas are incredible. I wish we could grow them like that in MI too!
    Love, Barb & John
