From the Stoker:
After 5 busy but restful days in ElPaso, TX we began our journey east this morning. It was wonderful being at Mom Sadie's house. We had a bed we didn't have to crawl in to on our hands and knees, a bathroom big enough to dance in rather than barely be able to turn around, comfortable sofas and chairs, a kitchen that more than just me can work in, and we had Mom taking such good care of us and trying to made us rest and relax. Our bodies truly did need these few days and we had many things to take care of, computer and etc. We also spent time visiting and eating with family and friends. Thank you Mom for all you do for us and for making your home ours.
We got a late start this morning (10:30 a.m.) but managed to bike 68 miles with 55 of them in a headwind and repairing a flat tire. We began biking at our stopping point last Sun. which was the far east side of ElPaso. Hwy. 76 to 20 to 192 to Interstate 10 stopping about 9 miles from Sierra Blanca, TX. We biked thru pecan orchards and farm land and many poor little towns. Once we got on Interstate 10, the mountains were more visible and we began to climb and enjoy the scenery.
Days like this are very long for Carol. No cities, no shopping, no parks to walk the dogs and no garage sales. She is always a welcome sight when we turn the corner or come over the top of a hill and she is waiting for us.
Impressions from the Captain:
The day was clear and bright and we were finally able to bike in summer clothes. It felt good to ride on fresh legs.
We had our 5th flat, which always seems to happen late in the day and when we are the most tired. It was particularly discouraging since we had just installed a liquid (based on recommendation from a bike mechanic) that was suppose to prevent flats. I was hoping that we had solution to our flats. We couldn't find what caused the flat even after removing the tire, so we installed a new tube and held our breath.

I just love your pictures. I wish I were sitting beside all three of you (and the doggies!) and you could tell me about every single one of them.
ReplyDeleteHappy that you had such a wonderful rest period in El Paso with your family - more than well-earned and well-deserved, but now kids - it's time to . . . PEDAL ON!!!
We-re cheering you on everyday. Be happy & cycle safe!!
Love, Barb & John
